"Try Illuminate" Tuesday: Now FREE

Updated: Aug 21

Next Tuesday, August 27 - an Open House, demo classes, workshops, and a picnic!

On Tuesday, August 27 @1:00-2:00, illuminate will open its doors for multiple fun events. New Families are asked to attend a New Family Orientation; which is now doubling as an Open House for anyone interested in classes! This is a chance to meet our teachers, get to know the company, and more.

Students will have the opportunity to try demo classes OR they can participate in one of our free workshops running 1:30-3:30 (more details below!). Families can plan to stay and have an outdoor picnic with us too. It's Back to School and Back to (home)school time, and illuminate has opportunities for all-schoolers to learn-grow-shine in 2025. Registration will be available on site!

FREE Exclusive Workshops to get the Creative Juices Flowing

A Master Class in Special Effects Make Up for ages 12+

Industry professional James Friedman will teach how to “makeup” the dramatic - using special effects and artistry.

After graduating with a Bachelor in Industrial Design Technology from the Art Institute of Pittsburg, James began working as a set and prop builder for Fisher Price's "Little People." He next switched gears from a stop-motion series to a live action PBS puppet show called "It's A Big Big World." For this production he designed and fabricated props ranging from Fossils to 8 feet long foam tree branches that had to blend with a CGI background. Working for these companies, James was subject to create artwork that had to be faithful to the design and style that was expected of the franchise. James currently works on the monster design and fabrication for a couple of independent films.

In this workshop, he will demonstrate tips and tricks to special effects makeup in an interactive and challenging workshop geared for ages 12+ (yes, adults too!).

FREE: A Master Class in Acting+Improv Basics for ages 8-12

In this fun and engaging workshop, students will learn and practice acting techniques: for beginners and intermediates alike! Taught by seasoned illuminate alum Blayze Malmberg, students will learn valuable skills that not only prepare them to master auditions, scene study, and character analysis like a pro, but they learn skills that help them build confidence and think quickly. You can find Blayze's bio on our website with our other instructors here!

While students take classes, families are invited to a picnic outdoors at Centenary or perhaps we will meander across the street to the library playground. Save the date!

*Thanks to the Mansfield Cultural Council for providing these opportunities!
